Featured West End Sponsor- Santa Rosa Entertainment Group

Did you know that many of the theaters in this area are under the leadership of an Italian Family with their roots in West End? Dan and Amy Tocchini, lifelong residents of Santa Rosa, proudly own the 11 theaters contained in the S. R. Entertainment Group.

The Tocchini family has owned theaters in Santa Rosa since 1924, when Dan Tocchini’s father, Daniel Tocchini Sr., built the Strand Theater on Fifth and Davis streets in Santa Rosa. It’s still standing in Historic Railroad Square- (Last Day Saloon building) and if you look closely, you will see the name “Tocchini”. Dan Tocchini, Jr continued in his father’s legacy in providing great family entertainment.

Dan Tocchini was the sixth child and only son of Daniel and Maria Tocchini, Italian immigrants who lived in San Francisco before moving to Santa Rosa’s Little Italy neighborhood in the early 1920s, where they operated a small grocery store. Tocchini Family members resided in the West End, living across the street from each other at two Spanish style homes (925 Davis & 155 9th).

As their company has grown, the Tocchinis have operated each of their theaters in an individual way, catering to the specific needs of each customer base. In this way, they can offer a personal touch that some of the larger theater chains cannot. For example, Airport Stadium 12 has luxury loungers and reserved seating; Summerfield Cinemas is known for its Indy and Foreign films with refreshments from local vendors & Roxy Stadium 14 in addition to its 14 screens but also presents events of local interest such as showing “Shadow of a Doubt” (filmed in Santa Rosa) on a big screen.

Next time you decide to take the family to the movies at a Santa Rosa Entertainment Group theater, remember that another West End family went on to create this movie empire.

Thank-you to our wonderful sponsors for 2018- Our West End Neighborhood sponsors all have ties to this neighborhood and generously sponsor the West End Neighborhood Association so we can provide valuable information to our residents on our website, our newsletter and at our meetings. Thank them by supporting these locally, owned businesses. It’s all about community.
