It’s a sensational summer and a busy one too! So much to do…. the hardest part is figuring out how to fit it all in. Luckily all the great events are actually in or close to home.

West End and Railroad Square:

Every Friday at 6 p.m.- West End Summer Bocce. Relax on Friday nights at DeMeo Park. Friends and neighbors visit, grill, share potluck delights and play bocce. Family friendly. Well behaved dogs are welcomed. No glass at park please. Season ends September 26th. Location: DeMeo Park 610 Polk St.

Every Sunday 10 a.m. to 2p.m.- West End Farmers Market.  This Sunday, meet The Veggie Queen, Jill Nussinow– a vegetarian, vegan, author and pressure cooking expert. She will present a cooking demonstration from 10:30 to 1 pm featuring Sensational Summer Vegetables, using vegetables fresh from the market .  Location: Donahue Street between W. 9th & W. 8th St.

August 16th, Saturday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.- So. Co. Wine & Swine  Enjoy locally sourced pork & wine, home grown music, shopping and art in Historic Railroad Square. Bands include The Easy Leaves, The Sam Chase, Misisipi Mike and the Midnite Gamblers and Sally Haggard. The 10th Annual Railroad Square 2 day sidewalk sale is teaming up with the event on Saturday and will continue on Sunday.  Free. Location: Historic Railroad Square

Sunday, August 17th at 1:00 PM- 5:00 PM  Jack Leissring Studio A unique inventory of works range from the 1600´s to present day. The collection contains 270 pieces of sculpture, ranging in size from small to monumental, approximately 6000 paintings, drawings, etchings, lithographs and other works on paper. Location: 622 Davis Street

Aug 22th- Sept 14th– Funny Girl- Her career spanned from comedienne to Vaudeville star. In The Ziegfeld Follies, in Hollywood films and on the radio, Fanny Brice was one of the most celebrated entertainers of her time. This show is her story. The West End’s own Laura McGinnis is featured in the role, “Emma”. Location: 6th St. Playhouse, G.K. Hardt Theatre

August 27th, September 24th, October 22nd at 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. -Open Mic Night & Group Beginning Guitar Lessons Meet for an evening of learning, performing and showing off. Family friendly, a good summer evening pastime.  6- 6:45 p.m.: Group beginning guitar lessons. 7-9 p.m. Open Mic. Art performers of all skill levels are welcome. Not a performer? Next month: September 13th 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.- DeMeo Park Clean Up– The West End Neighborhood joins forces with the Park A Month Volunteer program. Hand tools will be provided on-site by City of SR staff, but you are also welcome to bring your own tools. Don’t forget a hat/sunscreen, gloves and water. Location: DeMeo Park 610 Polk St.(Add volunteer sign up when available)
