Fireworks, Explosions and Dogs

Jun 29, 2013 in Animals, Lost Pet, Holiday

You have probably already heard the explosions at night- firecrackers, m80s…  they are loud! Besides being disturbing to your own peace and enjoyment, these loud noises can also be quite distressing to your dog.

There are lost dogs in this neighborhood during this time of the year- EVERY year. (No kidding!)

Take special care of your dog during the 4th of July holiday.

Take special care of your dog during the 4th of July holiday.

Take a moment to plan for this upcoming holiday

#1 Make sure your dog has an up-to-date tag with your phone number.

#2 Do NOT leave your dog outside unattended- even if you feel the yard is escape proof. No telling what a terrified dog might do. If you must leave, especially on the 4th of July, keep your dog securely inside.  Crate trained dogs might especially enjoy their safe, snug crate. (On the other hand, bringing your dogs to a fireworks display is never a good idea.)

#3 Close the curtains and windows. Leave the air conditioner on. Leave on a radio, t.v., noise filter… anything that might help soften the impact of these noises.

#4 Get back home as soon as you can, or at least have someone check on your dog.

You dog will thank you!
