What are your summer plans? (for your kids!)

Apr 10, 2013 in Miscellany, Neighbor News

Psssst! Summer is right around the corner- how about a few ideas for exciting summer activities for your kids? West Enders are incredibly fortunate to have two amazing facilities located right here in the neighborhood….. your kids could walk!

Chop’s Teen Club has great plans for the Summer of 2013. One example is The Summer’s Artist Series. Each class is instructed by a So. Co. artist and is reasonably priced to include materials, tools and instruction. The art will be showcased in Chop’s 5th Annual Art Gala  on July 25th. Classes range from “urban Spray & Acrylic Painting”, “Discover Glass”, ” Mad Mosaics and “Welding Workship”.

Another idea for summer time: RU Ready? Work Certificate. An 8 week course designed to help you get a job. This course focuses on 15 competencies that So. Co. Employers identified as being needed for success on the job. Successful participants will complete the course with a professional portfolio and So. Co. Office of Education’s “Work Ready Certificate”.

Chop’s membership is open to S. R. youth in 7th-12th grades. For the complete Summer Activity Guide check out chopsonline.com

Another fantastic (but not West End Option):

Summer Day Camps at the Humane Society Animal Adventure & Education Camps and Career Camps are held in the summer. Each session is one week (M-F) from 9:00AM – 3:00PM. Sessions are categorized by grade level (grade starting in the fall 2013 school year) with the first session beginning in June and the last session ending in August. ( 2nd to 12th grade) Due to the popularity of summer camps, Registration is restricted to one week of camp per child per summer to allow many children  to participate. For complete details and to register go to Sonoma Humane Society website.

City of S. R. Rec and Parks has an extensive list of camps and activities at http://ci.santa-rosa.ca.us/DEPARTMENTS/RECREATIONANDPARKS/Pages/default.aspx
