Happy Birthday Isaac DeTurk! Born 11/19/1834 He built the DeTurk Winery(ca. 1879)- those brick buildings across from the park on Donahue Street. Isaac DeTurk also built the DeTurk Round Barn in 1891 to house his champion trotter horses. The barn was used in the filming of Peggy Sue Got Married in 1986. As you all know, the entire site recently went through a major renovation and is now used for community meetings, weddings and celebrations. It also recently honored by the Redwood empire chapter of the AIA for a Restoration for Built Projects.
Speaking of Weddings! There was recently a West End wedding in the DeTurk Round Barn. The bridal couple, Kari & Colin Foulke, graciously shared photos of their wedding with the neighborhood. They not only celebrated their marriage but honored the West End. Their photos show them in front of the barn, by their W. E. home and even at Hotel La Rose. They even walked through the neighborhood to the barn.Best wishes, health and happiness to West End Newlyweds! (The excellent photos were taken by Offshoot Studios. Facebook)
