 This Wednesday night…. walk down to the Arlene Francis Center for an important informational meeting on the BoDean Asphalt Company. The AFC cafe is open… so come early to grab a beverage and socialize. We also have child care available during the meeting… because this is important.  Hello October… and where was this warm weather when we needed you?

October 3rd, Wednesday- BoDean Asphalt Community Forum  Do you have questions about the BoDean asphalt plant expansion and our community’s air quality?  There will be answers at this forum at Arlene Francis Center THIS Wednesday, October 3rd. Come at 6:45 if you would like to socialize before the meeting. Bring the kids! A sitter is available during the meeting! This is the community’s opportunity to ask questions of the BAAQMD (Bay Area Air Quality Management District) compliance staff. In a period of 3 months this summer, over 190 citizen complaints were placed with the BAAQMD, by close to 90 people. There will also be updates about the City of SR Design Review board decision denying the expansion and a copy of  BoDean’s Appeal to the City Council. Community Forum Oct. 3rd, Wednesday

October 5th, Friday – First Friday Night Sky Program.  First Friday Night Sky programs are offered on the first Friday of the month until May 2013. Show content will vary with emphasis on the stars, constellations, planets, and other interesting facts in or about the sky that night. Although admission is free, donations to support SRJC’s Planetarium are gratefully appreciated. Seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis; so arrive early enough to pick up your free parking permit, return it to your vehicle, and arrive back in the planetarium by the scheduled show start time. October 6th, Saturday-  First SATURDAY Cleanup (ages 6 and up welcome). Join neighbors and youth in the care of Prince Memorial Greenway the first Saturday of every month. Clean-up supplies provided. October 6th, Saturday-  6th Annual Community Safety Fair Event Watch firefighters rip the roof off a vehicle with the Jaws of Life. Squirt a real fire hose and meet your local heros. See REACH and H-1 helicopters land and take a peek inside. Check out SRPD’s K9 dog and USAR’s dog in action.  SRFD are hosting a Community Safety Fair– something for all ages to see and do including FREE hot dogs, snow cones and popcorn. October 5th, 6th & 7th– Sonoma County Harvest Fair. A celebration of the local harvest featuring three full days of wine tasting with 150+ wineries, wine sales, marketplace, chef demonstrations and workshops, farm and harvest agricultural activities for children and adults, the World Championship Grape Stomp, live music, an art show and sale, crafters pavilion, farm animals to meet, and much more. Adults $10, children $5, 6 and under free  http://harvestfair.org  Location: So. October 9th, Tuesday-   The Buzz About Bees:
Bee specialist April Lance, Healdsburg Master Gardener and beekeeper, will talk about all things relating to honeybees. She will share interesting and useful facts for humans to know and describe the types of flowers that keep bees happy and productive. Reservations are required due to limited seating. Crime News:

On Sunday, September 30, 2012, at approximately 9:50 p.m. the SRPD responded to the St. Rose Church at 398 10th St. for a report of arson. Within minutes of the first arson, the SRPD received a second arson report at the Church of Incarnation located at 550 Mendocino Ave. Then several minutes later a third arson was reported at Carlie Macy Engineering at 15 3rd St. All of the fires were extinguished quickly resulting in only minimal damage. Officers searched the area but did not locate any suspect/s. The fires appear to be related but there are no indications at this time that the crimes are hate related crimes but that possibility is also being explored. Detectives from the Property Crimes Team are conducting the investigation. Anyone with information on these fires is encouraged to contact Detective Chris O’Neill at (707) 543-3575.
