W. E. Feral Cat Colony Update- West End Neighbor Charly Thomas has been working with Forgotten Felines since November 2009 to manage and control this colony. 32 cats were originally “fixed” in 2009. The colony has stabilized and numbers approximately 25. The colony eats approximately 30 lbs of food a week. If you would like to help feed the colony, you can drop off cat food on Charly’s porch at 124 W. 6th. (A 20 lb bag of Diamond Maintenance Cat food can be bought at Western Farm Center for about $17.)

Although 25 cats still seems like a big number, it is estimated that 2 uncontrolled breeding cats create the following: 2 litters a year at a survival rate of 2.8 kittens per litter. With continued breeding: Year 1 = 12 cats Year 2 = 66 cats Year 3 = 382 cats Year 4 = 2,201 cats Year 5 = 3,822 cats Year 6 = 12,680 cats multiplying to a staggering year 10= 80,399,780 cats. Yikes! Thank you, Charly and Forgotten Felines for helping get this colony in a stabilized, healthy and kitten Free state.
