The West End is a great place to own a dog (or other pet). We have a dog park, live next to miles of creek trails… and, of course, have Western Farm Center right in the middle of the neighborhood. A collection of Pet Friendly events and happenings are listed below.

West End Summer Bocce– Every Friday in DeMeo Park. Our last bocce is right around the corner (Sept. 21st) so come out and enjoy it while you can. This is a neighborhood & family gathering and your well-behaved dog is most welcomed. (After all… they’re family too. Right?) Location: DeMeo Park Time: 6 p.m.

September 6th, Thursday- Pet First Aid . Would you know what to do if your pet stopped breathing? Learn the latest techniques for keeping your furry friend healthy. Topics covered include: bite wounds, bleeding, stopped breathing, burns, diarrhea, choking and much more. Ages 12 + SR resident $70 class fee (#63645) Register at santarosarec.com Location: Finley Community Center 2060 W. College Avenue, Manzanita Rm. Time: 6- 9 p.m.

September 8th, Saturday & 9th Sunday- Water Bark Dog Swim The Spring Lake swimming lagoon will turn into a leash-free dog park for the weekend. The summer swim season is ending, well-behaved dogs are invited to romp in the lagoon. Donations (will benefit the park) of $3 per dog for Regional Parks members and $5 per dog for non-members. The first 250 dogs each day will receive a free, dog-friendly flying disc thanks to r sponsor, Anderson Acres Canine Guest Ranch. Due to health regulations, swimming at this event is for dogs only. Parking near the lagoon is free for members and $7 for non-members. Please download and turn in a completed Waiver Form (PDF: 160kB) when registering at the event. September 8th, Saturday- Read to an Autumn Dog – Your child can read to a certified therapy dog from the Sonoma County Humane Society. The dogs are good listeners. Location: So. Co. Library- Central Santa Rosa Branch Time: 11:00 am Read To Dog

September 9th, West End Small Dog Hour– A slower, downsized environment for the smaller dog to play in. A great time for small dogs to meet with other small dogs to romp without concern. The West End Small Dog Hour is held the second Sunday of every month right before the W. E. Poodle Party. Rain will cancel the event. Organized by West Ender Lea Barron-Thomas Location: DeTurk Round Barn Dog Park  Time: 10 a.m.

September 9th, West End Poodle Party. Calling all social Poodles!… it’s time to party. The West End Poodle Party is held the second Sunday of every month. All Poodles, Poodle fusions and Poodle friendly dogs are invited to attend. Rain will cancel the event. Organized by West Ender Lea Barron-Thomas. September 16th, Sunday- No Pug Party at DeTurk Round Barn Park . September’s Pug Play Day is Beach Puggies Play Day. It’s an annual event held at Dillion Beach. Dillion Beach is one of the few beaches that allows dogs to be off leash. For more info contact lhoward@sonic.net  Time: 10 a.m.

Not in Santa Rosa but a great dog friendly event: September 29th, Saturday- The 3rd Annual ASL Mutt Strut. Calling all four-legged and two-legged fun-loving walkers to the Mutt Strut a 1-mile family-oriented dog walkathon. This is a fundraising event to raise much needed funds for the Rohnert Park Animal Shelter. This will be a fun filled day of exercise, music, food, drink, demonstrations, contests and animal-related vendors. SPAY PAL- $30 CAT Spay and Neuter Surgeries Offered by appointment. The Sonoma Humane Society offers “Spay Pal”, a low cost cat spay/neuter Cat Spay/Neuter program for Sonoma County Residents held on Tuesdays and Fridays.
