West End Bocce & West End Movie Night at DeMeo Park- The weather was kind and thus our last Bocce and Movie night were well attended and enjoyed by all. We took our yearly photo under the Paradox Walnut tree- biggest group ever. Everyone brought food- fresh garden tomatoes, home baked pie, cobbler & cookies, wonderful BBQ meats and more. Lights added a festive glow to the bocce courts and park.  Ben Rosales, a professional photographer, took beautiful pictures of the last night. West End Bocce is a special time to gather with friends, family and neighbors. Thanks to Guy Dean,  Allen Thomas, Heather Rosales & Kernan Coleman. These folks were the stalwart backbone that always put in an extra effort to make Bocce wonderful for everyone.  Paul & Veronica Jordan are the force behind the West End Movie nights. We also had other doggie friends- Doodles, Bichons, a Chinese Crested and more. For more dog park photos, Click Here!

3rd Annual Alley Cat Race & Food Drive- In spite of the rain, many gathered at the Toad in the Hole for the Alley Cat Race. Bike riders were given a map and food items to collect- and the race was on! There was a raffle with the biggest prize, a bike, going to Hilary. (A West End newlywed, she’s lucky in love too!) This was another fabulous Kelly Cowan production- the food collected benefited the Redwood Empire Food Bank. For more photos from this event- Click Here!

Crime Alert- At approximately 3 a.m. on Thursday morning (August 12th)- someone tried to steal the wheels and tires off of a resident’s car (Honda). When the car alarm went off- they ran off but were still able to take one wheel and tire. The lug nuts on the other three tires were loose- so they were prepped for removal. This happened on W. 6th Street- near Madison Street.

Stolen Bike Report: I live at 216 Hewett St. I’ve been here since 1998 and never had any problems with theft, despite forgetting to close my garage many times. Unfortunately this “time of innocence” has ended. My bike was stolen from my garage sometime between Thursday the 22nd and Tuesday the 27th. The garage door was down and locked. The thief had to enter through our backyard gate and side garage door. It was my beloved Dahon folding commuter bike I ride to work everyday during the school year. It is gray and has 20” wheels. If anyone sees it around, please let me know. Cynthia McDaniel  Email
