So much to do- and all of it close by! It’s the peak of Summer- enjoy the weather and all the delightful events offered in Downtown. As always- you can join your friends and neighbors EVERY Friday at DeMeo Park for West End Bocce and you can “Wine Down” every Thursday at D’Argenzio Winery.

July 27th- August 14th- Sonoma County Fair. Good Ol’ fashioned fun. This year is the 75th anniversary- so opening day has a special procession starting at Wednesday Night Market and ending at the fair. Participants will receive free admission. There’s also free red, white and blue hats to create a living flag out of fairgoers. Fireworks too! Great local music choices: Miss Kitty and the Big Dogs, The Fondettes, Mad Maggies, Shannon Rider, The Don Giovannis and more. July 27th, Wednesday- 95.9 The KRUSH & the North Bay Hootenanny … present The Pick-Me-Up Music Revue with Travis Hendrix & The Blessed Moonshiners. (Folk, Americana, bluegrass, country etc)  The entire family can come out and enjoy local foot stomping music. All Ages! $5 21+, $8 for minor- includes free soda or fries. July 30th, Saturday- Art Round Up. Benefit Art Auction for Art Start- local renowned artists and one of a kind art by the Artstart apprentices. West Enders always have many events, happenings and entertainment to choose from. You can socialize with your neighbors, hang out with your favorite dogs, play on the creek or listen to music.

Don’t forget! The West End Bicycle Parade and Yearly Potluck BBQ on July 16th, Saturday is almost here!, . Volunteers are requested to set up in the morning (move hay bales, set up tables etc.) and to break down and clean up late afternoon (stack hay bales, pick up trash, clean up etc.) Are you good with kids? Volunteer to coordinate kid’s activities like a hula hoop contest, water balloon toss or egg and spoon race. Lend your empty recycle bin and trash can that day- just roll it to DeMeo Park. Bicycle Parade safety marshals and decoration assistants would also be appreciated. Contact Allen (707) 477-8422 to volunteer.

July 9th Roots Americana #1 One Saturday a month, S. R.’s Courthouse Square will turn into a folk music paradise! Sunday, July 10th ,  5th Street Share Fair The 5th Street Share Fair will bring 5th Street merchants and restaurants out into the streets along with artists, musicians, inventors, and mad tinkerers.  Share Exchange, is an incubator of ideas for a new local economy with the goal to share, reuse and exchange resources amongst neighbors to promote a friendlier world. It will be a fun day filled with live music, performing arts, sculpture exhibits, juried arts and craft vendors, food and beer. July 16th- Whitewater Rodeo on Santa Rosa Creek (children of all ages welcome) Build a toy boat and race it down Santa Rosa Creek’s shallow rapids that test stability, speed, accuracy, and durability. Wear shoes that can get wet. Laughs and prizes, everyone is a winner! No Boat! You can build a boat that morning on the creek. Materials and assistance will be available to craft your own vessel. Sea Scouts will be on hand to demonstrate their skills and provide water safety. Come out and enjoy your creek!  Location: Meet at the Pierson Street bridge (near # 5 Pierson Street between W. 3rd and W. 6th Streets). Time: 10:30 AM – noon. The weather is hot. The Regatta is over…. but there are always plenty of things for West End residents to do. Check out this week’s Creek Week and other events.

September 25th- October 2nd- Creek Week is a week-long celebration of our local creeks. Throughout the Russian River and Santa Rosa Creek areas, cities, counties and other stewardship organizations are coming together to declare September 25 – October 2 as “Creek Week”. This will be a time of fun and adventure, with educational activities for everyone at your local creeks and nature areas. Join in the creek clean-up and restoration opportunities. All our creeks are a rich and diverse system which provides water supply, wildlife habitat, flood capacity, recreation, and aesthetic values to all who live in and visit them.  For more info Click Here!

Events and entertainment whether in the West End, featuring West End Performers or within walking distance are always plentiful.We know you can’t possibly do everything so here’s photos &  videos to show you what you missed.

Quarter Mile Combo- played at Hopmonk Tavern. This 4 piece Americana Rockabilly band features the West End’s own Justin Barr on guitar, vocalist Nettie Hammar, drummer Gary Daly and Todd Troublemaker on bass. A great show. They have a recently released cd “Motels, Gas and Beer”. You will note that the cover photo is shot in front of the DeTurk Winery building. Got to love that band!

Ken Risling and Avery Risling-Sholl- Performed at Aroma Roasters. Ken sings his original songs, Avery offers traditional Celtic music, songs and fiddle. There were other guests, Oona Risling-Sholl sang a song with her father, Ken. Kate Sholl joined the whole family for a few songs. There were also members from the S. F. Scottish Fiddlers. An incredible night.

Santa Rosa ADULT Gong Show- This is a live version of the old T. V. show- but with an adult rating. The show,  produced by Kelly Cowan & Jacquie Smith, was hilarious and everyone looks forward the next one. Watch S. R. ADULT Gong Show- Click Here!

Save our Pools- Almost 6oo people ran/walked through the West End Neighborhood on Sunday for the “Save our Pools” 5 K. West Enders watched them from their front porches and cheered them on with cowbells and waves. Racers got to see the DeTurk Round Barn, our two lovely parks and historic homes- many for the first time. West Ender Veronica Jordan and her friend, Ann Figurski made a big splash dressed in swimming attire and sporting “Save our Pools” across their baby bumps. See Press Democrat News story
