Lunatics, Buckets and Dogs- Good times

If you want to get a little crazy, this is a good week to do it. Lots of opportunities to see local West End performing artists- and the biggest event actually requires a straight jacket (or perhaps a bathrobe and medication).

July 27th, Tuesday night. Toad in the Hole’s 3 year anniversary Party. The Deluxe Buckets will bust out some good ol’fashioned swampabilly- zombitandem-tacotruckin-goodtime tunes.  Plus, the troublemakers will be haulin’ out the big contraptions for the summer fun of it and because the Toad has always been ready with beer and support for The Builders. Lunatic Binge will encourage  you right off the deep end.  A benefit fundraiser for Baby Seal Club’s upcoming CD- but you actually benefit because you get to see the 3 local bands including West End Favorites- Baby Seal Club and the Deluxe Buckets! $10 in costume ( $15 without). One of the benefits of downtown living, is being close to local community events. No need to get in the car- just walk or ride your bike- enjoy these happenings right in your own neighborhood.

West End Summer Bocce Every Friday at 6 p.m. at DeMeo Park. Join your friends and neighbors at beautiful DeMeo Park. Bring food and drinks to share. This is an all age, dog friendly event. To keep the event enjoyable and comfortable for all- please remember to observe Park rules: No glass, dogs on leashes. The West End Neighborhood Association has procured a Special Alcohol Permit and Lavatory for West End Summer Bocce. Wear layers for chilly nights.

July 17th Saturday-  West End Neighborhood Association BBQ and Bicycle Parade. BBQ starts at 3 p.m. A traditional, old fashioned community BBQ at DeMeo Park. The West End Neighborhood Association will provide hamburgers and hot dogs, beverages and utensils. Neighbors are encouraged to bring their own reusable utensils, plates.   Bring a dish to share. Don’t forget to bring serving utensils and mark everything with your name.   Parade starts at DeMeo Park at 1:30 p.m. The Bicycle Parade is a new event. It’s all about self propelled wheeled devices- such as bikes, strollers, skateboards and wagons. Get creative and decorate.

July 23rd, Friday 5-7pm     Chop’s Teen Club – Summer Art Gala. Come to see the creativity and artistic endeavors of the Chop’s Teen Club members. Art displayed is from the Side by Side Professional Artist Series. Come enjoy hors d’eouvres by Chop’s Catering Crew and live music by Brody Cumming. June 26th, Saturday at 7:30 p.m. West End Full Moon Bike Ride- Bike ride from West End’s DeMeo Park to Hop Monk back to West End / Toad in the Hole. Ride will follow Joe Rodota trail. Surf Movie Night and the Deluxe Buckets

New to You Shop gets a  Face lift- The Assistance League of Sonoma County is renovating their building. The forbidding bars have been removed, the exterior and tile roof has been painted. The corner of Adams and W. 6th Street has a new, fresh look compliments of Kelly Moore Paint and Redwood Empire Painting & Decorating Contractors of America. Future improvements to doors & windows are planned. The Assistance League provides many kind and wonderful services. They also support this neighborhood in many ways. They sponsor the W. E. When you live in the West End, there are always opportunities to socialize and have fun. Aren’t you happy you live here?

This weekend, West Enders participated in a neighborhood-wide Spring Yard sale, took their dog to a training class or to the dog park right in the neighborhood, listened to the Shannon Rider band at the 4H Chickenque, had relaxing picnics at DeMeo Park  or met  friends at the Mostly Python street party and cheered for a West End favorite- The Deluxe Buckets.

Wednesday April 28th at 8 p.m.- Songwriter Showcase: Rob Heath, Ken Risling ( West End artist) and Mike Ehlers. An evening of great acoustic, original music from seasoned songcrafters. The “songwriters in the round” format will keep all three artists on the stage in rotation, trading songs and stories.  Ken Risling’s songs, ranging in genre from folk, country, 50’s blues, swing to modern rock,  have won numerous awards. With a warm manner and inviting voice, he is perhaps best known for delivering heartfelt tales. Location: Hopmonk Tavern 230 Petaluma Ave, Sebastopol.

The Bocce Cleanup was a wonderful warm up to the season. Neighbors worked, socialized and ate bake goods from the West End Charter School bake sale. Opening night for Bocce is Friday May 14th. West End Neighborhood Yard sale this Saturday May 1st. (rain date May 8th).

Monday April 26th 6 p.m.-  Museum on the Square public meeting. The proposed project will adapt and reuse 520 Third St. (aka AT&T building) for cultural, commercial and residential. Can you sing? April 15th, Thursday- Audition to sing the National Anthem at the AMGEN Tour of California! Wine Country Radio is holding auditions for their annual Anthem Contest, 6-8 p.m. at the Russian River Brewing Company. Come prepared to belt out the National Anthem on stage and have your performance video taped. The top 5 performers will have their videos posted on Wine Country Radio websites for radio listeners to vote on their favorite, who will ultimately sing the anthem at the AMGEN Tour of California celebration in Santa Rosa on May 17th!
