Amber Lee Baker in Alpha . Click Here! Amber is “Dominating” the local music scene. Her second Album  “Indelible” is in the works and includes 8 well crafted songs, including “Alpha” .  There is a Kickstarter Fundraiser to help fund this fabulous album. I’m putting out the word that I’m NOW LOOKING FOR ACTORS interested in collaborating on some skill-building exercises, staging and shooting short scenes. Minimal commitment of time and effort. November 18th, 19th, and 20th- Hank Williams: Lost Highway (See message) A message from Tim Sarter- Hello everyone, The time is nearly here for our encore performance of Hank Williams: Lost Highway. Last winter the cast and crew of this show performed this play for a run of 26 sold out shows at the 6th Street Playhouse. This month we are bringing it back for 3 shows only at Spreckles Performing Arts Center in Rohnert Park. She plays the accordion, is a singer-songwriter and is part of the Accordion Babe Pin-Up Calendar revolution – reinventing the accordion as a sexy instrument. Every Sunday Night – West End DJ Katie Vrooman has a specialty radio show called “Great Dames, Vintage Chicks,” a collection of torch singers, big band singers and jazz vocalists from the 1930’s- 1960’s. Katie hand selects all the music from the show and talks about it as well. You can also hear Katie on Monday- Friday during mid-day- But the Sunday night show (10 p.m. to midnight) is about female singers who “carry the torch”. The KRUSH

6th Street Playhouse Audition Opportunities: Auditions announced for Ring of Fire & Cabaret. The 6th Street Playhouse has announced (non-Equity only) auditions for two upcoming season productions:  1) Ring of Fire: the Music of Johnny Cash [all roles in the 4m/4f in the ensemble cast] 2) Cabaret [the roles of the Emcee and Sally Bowles only]  These are general auditions: NO appointments are necessary.  Saturday, 11/13, 12 – 3pm, Ring of Fire only Tuesday, 11/16, 7 – 9pm, Ring of Fire only Saturday, 11/20, 12 – 3pm, Ring of Fire and Cabaret. Auditions announced for Intimate Apparel.  The 6th Street Playhouse has announced general auditions for Intimate Apparel on Wednesday, November 17 at 7:00 p.m. for three available roles: Mayme – ’30s’, African American George – ’30s’, Barbadian immigrant Mrs. Van Buren – ’30s’, white American  Appointments are not necessary. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.  Actors cast in the production will receive a small stipend. Intimate Apparel, by Lynn Nottage, will be playing in the 6th Street Playhouse Studio Theater, February 11 – 27, 2011. September 25th- October 2nd- Creek Week is a week-long celebration of our local creeks. Throughout the Russian River and Santa Rosa Creek areas, cities, counties and other stewardship organizations are coming together to declare September 25 – October 2 as “Creek Week”. This will be a time of fun and adventure, with educational activities for everyone at your local creeks and nature areas. Join in the creek clean-up and restoration opportunities. All our creeks are a rich and diverse system which provides water supply, wildlife habitat, flood capacity, recreation, and aesthetic values to all who live in and visit them.  For more info Click Here!

September 26th, Sunday- Creek Week Event Turtle Talk (all ages welcome) Join Nick Geist, Associate Professor of Biology, Sonoma State University for an informative talk about turltes found in our local creeks. September 28th, Tuesday- Creek Week Event Downtown Underground (ages 12 and up) Tour the underground culverts and fish ladders in the downtown area. The tour will require participants to walk in rough, wet terrain. Wear sturdy shoes that can get wet and bring a flashlight. Time: 5:30 – 7:30 P.M. Start off the Handcar Regatta Weekend by being one of the first to view the teen-designed and fabricated handcar. View other contraptions by Krank-Boom-Clank, Arn Anderson and Whiskey Drunk Cycles . By now, many of you have noticed the steel beams sticking out of the windows of the DeTurk Round Barn, this is in preparation of the barn being lifted. It will be an exciting step of the project and may happen on Friday. The sod will finally be placed in the dog park and work will continue on the barn while the dog park completes its “grow in”. Tentative Dog Park opening is July 15, 2010- but everything is subject to change due to varied circumstances.

Project Update- In progress or planned- Dog Park: a) Tree and sod placement, b) Painting of fence c) Irrigation testing d) Benches and Final concrete work. Round Barn:  a) Shoring and cribbing for barn lift b) Barn lift c) Soil Removal d) Prep for concrete slab & infrastructure.  Off-Site Improvements: a) Start work on sidewalk etc. at Donahue/W. 8th.

Crime Alert-Bike stolen: Wednesday night (May 19th) one of our nice road bikes — a brown and white Jamis Aurora — was taken from behind our house at 120 9th St. Also happened at around 2AM. I called the police and they drove around the neighborhood a few minutes later with no luck.  Russ Scarola

West End Events & Happenings:

West End Summer Bocce- Every Friday at 6 p.m. at DeMeo Park.  Join your friends and neighbors at beautiful DeMeo Park.  Bring food and drinks to share.  The West End Neighborhood Association has secured a permit for alcohol and a lavatory for Friday night Bocce season. (Thanks to everyone who paid their dues!) This is an all age, dog friendly event. To keep the event enjoyable and comfortable for all- please remember to observe Park rules: No glass, dogs on leashes.  Wear layers for chilly nights.

May 28th, Friday night is the premier of Rent at the 6th Street Playhouse. Enjoy the wonderful amenity of live performances right in the neighborhood. For info Click here!
