The Save our Pools 5k race will, once again, run a path through the West End. The race starts at 8 a.m.- so watch for racers to course through the West End sometime after that. Sit on your porch, drink your coffee and ring your cowbells for the racers- unless, of course, you plan to race! Also… only 4 more Bocce nights. Last date is September 16th.

August 26th, Friday-  West End Summer Movie Nights at DeTurk Round Barn “Duma”- Watch movies under the stars. Movie schedule posted on DeTurk Park Bulletin Board (by dog park) Bring a blanket, warm clothes and friends. Free Popcorn. Location: DeTurk Round Barn Park 819 Donahue Street Time: Movies start at dark- 8:30 to 9 p.m. As soon as it is dark enough to project. If it rains, the event is canceled. Questions? Running by DeTurk Round Barn:

August  28th, Saturday- The Santa Rosa Marathon and 5K SAVE OUR POOLS Charity Race. The 5K will loop through the West End… so get your cowbells out to cheer on the runners!  ( 5 K race map) The Marathon is a double 13.1 mile loop that starts in Juilliard Park in downtown Santa Rosa.  The half Marathon starts at the same location and completes one loop.  It is a flat, fast Boston Qualified course that loops the entire scenic Prince Memorial Greenway. The 5 K race will raise funds to help support Chops Teen Center’s  unique workforce job placement program  and to help “Save the (Finley and Ridgeway) Pools. A portion of the Marathon will benefit the Sonoma County Humane Society and Valley of the Moon Children’s Foundation. Enjoy a fun festival in Juilliard Park after the races that will include live music by local rock band WonderBread 5. For more info S. R. Marathon

August 29th, Monday- Spring Maxfield, organizer and cofounder of The Great West End & Railroad Square Handcar Regatta- will discuss the origin of this event and trace the event’s growth to become one of the country’s most popular fall activities. Now in its fourth year, the Regatta is billed as a “splendid celebration of art, science and ingenuity” which is a “spectacle for both young and old.  Open to the public and free. The West End Neighborhood Association Spring meeting had over 70 attendees. Good meeting! There was a wealth of announcements and updates. The West End would like to thank our speakers, Supervisor Shirlee Zane and SRPD Chief Tom Schwedhelm for taking the time to meet our West End neighbors. SRPD downtown enforcement team (Bike Patrol) Officer T. Anderson was also on hand to answer questions.
