The West End is teeming with creativity and talent.

December 3rd, Friday- Chop’s Variety Showcase. An evening of food and fun to celebrate the successes and talents of Chop’s members. This event is catered by the Chop’s Catering Crew. Free and open to the public. Location: Chops Teen Club 509 Adams Street Time: 4:30- 6:30 p.m.

December 3rd, Friday- The New Horizons Band Holiday Concert. The New Horizons Band highlights the talent of over 60 vintage musicians in a remarkable concert band and a lively swing band. The Holiday Concert will feature seasonal favorites and there is an innovative musical piece with 5 tubas.   Joan Woodhull, well known West End musician and gardener, will play the alto sax. Location: The Glaser Center 547 Mendocino Avenue Time: 7 p.m. Donations accepted in any amount.

The 2011 Accordion Babes calendar is here! This calendar has spicy pinup style photos and a compilation CD of all 12 Accordion Babes. The Hank Band recently played at the Lagunitas Beer Sanctuary. The weather was sultry and the band was hot too. The Hank Band featuring Tahmus Rounds, Chris Rovetti, Dave Zibel, Jim Peterson and the West End’s own Tim Sarter. They also just wrapped up their final show of Hank Williams: Lost Highway and also played. You really missed out if you didn’t get a chance to see them and since Tahmus lives in L.A., it’s a rare treat for them to get together. November 18th, 19th, and 20th- Hank Williams: Lost Highway (See message) A message from Tim Sarter- Hello everyone, The time is nearly here for our encore performance of Hank Williams: Lost Highway. Last winter the cast and crew of this show performed this play for a run of 26 sold out shows at the 6th Street Playhouse. This month we are bringing it back for 3 shows only at Spreckles Performing Arts Center in Rohnert Park. Your chance to support local artist- Amber Lee Baker. Most of us has had the pleasure of watching Amber Lee and the Anomalies perform. She plays the accordion, is a singer-songwriter and is part of the Accordion Babe Pin-Up Calendar revolution – reinventing the accordion as a sexy instrument. Amber is working on her second Album  “Indelible” it includes 8 well crafted songs and is bound to be fabulous.  There is a Kickstarter Fundraiser to help fund the Second Album. It’s a fun way for to pre-buy the album and get some great extras. The more you pledge, the more you get…. a private house concert for you and 10 friends, accordion lessons, T-shirts and more. Every Sunday Night – West End DJ Katie Vrooman has a specialty radio show called “Great Dames, Vintage Chicks,” a collection of torch singers, big band singers and jazz vocalists from the 1930’s- 1960’s. Katie hand selects all the music from the show and talks about it as well. You can also hear Katie on Monday- Friday during mid-day- But the Sunday night show (10 p.m. to midnight) is about female singers who “carry the torch”. The KRUSH

6th Street Playhouse Audition Opportunities: Auditions announced for Ring of Fire & Cabaret. The 6th Street Playhouse has announced (non-Equity only) auditions for two upcoming season productions:  1) Ring of Fire: the Music of Johnny Cash [all roles in the 4m/4f in the ensemble cast] 2) Cabaret [the roles of the Emcee and Sally Bowles only]  These are general auditions: NO appointments are necessary.  Saturday, 11/13, 12 – 3pm, Ring of Fire only Tuesday, 11/16, 7 – 9pm, Ring of Fire only Saturday, 11/20, 12 – 3pm, Ring of Fire and Cabaret. Auditions announced for Intimate Apparel.  The 6th Street Playhouse has announced general auditions for Intimate Apparel on Wednesday, November 17 at 7:00 p.m. for three available roles: Mayme – ’30s’, African American George – ’30s’, Barbadian immigrant Mrs. Van Buren – ’30s’, white American  Appointments are not necessary. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.  Actors cast in the production will receive a small stipend. Intimate Apparel, by Lynn Nottage, will be playing in the 6th Street Playhouse Studio Theater, February 11 – 27, 2011. Don’t let Tax Day get you down. There’s lots of fun things to attend- Music, Earth Day, Pugs and West End talent - You choose!

Can you sing? April 15th, Thursday- Audition to sing the National Anthem at the AMGEN Tour of California! Wine Country Radio is holding auditions for their annual Anthem Contest, 6-8 p.m. at the Russian River Brewing Company. Come prepared to belt out the National Anthem on stage and have your performance video taped. The top 5 performers will have their videos posted on Wine Country Radio websites for radio listeners to vote on their favorite, who will ultimately sing the anthem at the AMGEN Tour of California celebration in Santa Rosa on May 17th! Speaking of talented neighbors, The Gong Show (Produced by West End resident Kelly Cowan) was by all accounts,  smashing success. If you missed the show- you can still enjoy the show on video.  The West End would like to thank Marcy Mendelson for catching Carmen Miranda on video. ( Marcy has also offered to help Carmen work on some “killer” samba moves!)  The talented and dashing Clifford Hill has also taken photos of the event.
