It was a stormy night. For those of you who don’t know, W. 7th St. suffered damage from the storm on Saturday night, March 19th. A large tree blew down causing damage to a power pole, several cars and taking out power. Several neighbors and Franco American had no power on Sunday. It was the first time in the bakery’s long history that they were unable to bake bread on schedule. In spite of connecting to a generator, Franco American customers did not get their Monday delivery.  The jury is still out on whether March came in like a lion AND out like a lamb.

The West End Full Moon Tour was a great success. Tour leader and host, Allen Thomas led folks through the time to the West End in the late 1940s. The moon was gorgeous and enticed the spirit of Isaac DeTurk to regal folks with the history of his barn. Everyone had a blast at Starks where they enjoyed food, Full Moon cocktails and the wonderful Fondettes. Thanks to Bill Montgomery (aka Isaac DeTurk), Franco American Bakery, the Fondettes and Starks Steakhouse.

The Annual West End Picnic was a wonderful event. Every one enjoyed hamburgers and hot dogs grilled by Guy Dean and Heather Rosales. We also had an ice cream sundae station (under the the command of Sam & Aaron Jacobs) and lots of food contributed by neighbors. The kids enjoyed facepainting, games and a water balloon toss- organized by Robin Stephani and Jacquie Smith. The picnic was accompanied by music supplied by Sher Ennis. The Santa Rosa Fire Department also came for a visit.

A well attended BBQ

A well attended BBQ

So many neighbors contributed to make this event a success. Volunteers helped set up, BBQ, arrange tables, organize children’s activities, prepped the Bocce court ( Thank-you Andrew Zarrillo) and to clean up. We’d like to thank Western Farm for the use of the hay bales, their huge BBQ and mesquite. Franco American also donated their wonderfully fresh hamburger buns. We are also grateful to Rick Derringer, Odyssey Development for donating to help cover the cost of the BBQ.
