Thanksgiving… a time to reflect and be grateful for the good things in our lives.

Our Fall meeting was very informative. Special guest Supervisor Shirlee Zane came by to give us an update on SMART. Shirlee is no stranger to the West End. She frequently rides her bike through the area and said that she admires our neighborhood. She is a well-known dog lover and even brought one of her dogs to the meeting. She also opened the new DeTurk Round Barn Dog Park in March. Shirlee, also a member of the SMART board, had attended that day’s Railroad square rally in support of SMART and was pleased by the impressive showing of supporters. Her report had a positive outlook on the project.

Santa Rosa Rec & Parks reported on the current status of the DeTurk Round Barn and the events. There will be an open house on December 10th for anyone who would like to see inside of the barn and would like to inquire about renting it for events. You can bring your dog to take a photo with Santa too. Rec & Park would like to change the use permit to allow for number of people and hours. There will be a public meeting and formal process for this- so stay tuned.

Neighbors are what makes the West End special. At our meeting, new and established neighbors described their West End history. Allen Thomas gave the West End year in review… and that covered many of the events and happenings in our busy neighborhood. Good meeting!
