Our last West End Summer Bocce is this Friday… you won’t want to miss it. On Saturday, you can also participate in beautifying the dull, neglected 9th Street overcrossing. Kid fun alert! The White Water rodeo, also on Saturday,  promises to be extremely entertaining. Best of all almost everything is right in the neighborhood.

September 17th, Saturday- 9th Street Mural Community Painting Day #2 Help us paint! The St. Rose and West End neighborhoods have joined forces to create a mural for the 9th Street under crossing. The goal is to create an attractive, comfortable, graffiti-free experience for the pedestrian, bike rider, driver or neighbor who may travel through this under crossing. The design, by Mario Uribe, is also easy to maintain by neighborhood volunteers. Help us paint! Snacks and beverages provided. September 17th, Saturday- 7th Annual Kid’s Street Poker Run, BBQ & Car Show.  Rev up your engines and go hog wild. BBQ & Car show 2:30- 4 p.m.  Poker run 8:30- 10:30.  Location: Kid St. 709 Davis-   www.kidstreet.org register for poker run.

September 17th- 24th- Creek Week. A week long series of walks, bike rides and activities for all ages.   This will be a time of fun and adventure, with educational activities for everyone at your local creeks and nature areas.   Creek Week event: September 17th, Saturday- Whitewater Rodeo On Santa Rosa Creek (all ages welcome) Build a toy boat and race it down Santa Rosa Creek. Don’t have time to build a boat? Materials and assistance will be available to build your own vessel that morning. Wear shoes that can get wet. Laughs and prizes, everyone is a winner! Boy Scouts and Lifeguards will be on hand to demonstrate their skills and provide water safety. The West End Neighborhood Association BBQ and Bike Parade is THIS Saturday at DeMeo Park. Bike Parade at 1 p.m. (Decorate your Bike! Bike helmets required 18 yrs and less. Helmets available if you don’t have one.);  BBQ at 3 p.m. Looking for volunteers to coordinate Kid’s activities, for clean up & set up and to be Safety Marshals for the Bike Parade. Rain?! What the heck was that about? Well, never mind. Summer is in full swing.
The West End Neighborhood Association Bicycle Parade and BBQ is on July 16th, Saturday. Mark it on your calendars! The Bike parade will start at 1 p.m. at DeMeo Park. BBQ will start at 3 p.m. at DeMeo Park. Don’t forget to decorate your bike!

July 1-  Summer Nights at Railroad Square.  A Summer Street Party featuring wine tasting, live music, outdoor dining, crafters and art. July 2nd- First Saturday Clean up This Independence Weekend also celebrate your interdependence by cleaning up the Creek. The Creek is part of our water supply, provides us with recreation, contributes to wildlife habitat and the peace of mind of a babbling brook. Come join us Saturday. We will clean the Creek and if anybody is interested do some weeding and cleanup at the park. Lunch will be provided, pizza. So come join us as we take care of most valuable asset. July 3rd, Sunday- Go for a Train Ride. West Ender Andre Siedentopf and the Redwood Empire Live Steamers invite you to come for a train ride this 4th of July weekend. Mention you saw invitation on Facebook and you’ll get 1st ride FREE. Only a $1 a ride after that. The Redwood Empire Live Steamers is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving Sonoma Counties Railroad history through the re-creation, in miniature, of railroad equipment and historic landmarks. The weather is finally warming up… and as always there is a variety of events and happenings to choose from. West Enders can enjoy Bocce at DeMeo Park every Friday night. We also are usually within walking or biking distance to the best events in Santa Rosa.  Take advantage of having the Rialto Cinema right in the neighborhood- the films are unique and flavorful.

June 21st ,Tuesday- Making the Boys  “The Boys in the Band” the first-ever gay play and subsequent Hollywood movie to successfully reach a mainstream audience changed everything. Making the Boys explores the enduring legacy and controversy that endures to this day “The Boys in the Band”. Tickets on sale now at rialtocinemas.com. Tickets may also be purchased at our box office at the Sixth Street Playhouse on the day of each showing. Adults are $10 and Seniors (60 and up) are $8. June 22, Wednesday  Help send Snoopy  as our Goodwill Ambassador. This will be the first Snoopy ever on the Korean Island, Jejudo,  Santa Rosa’s sister city. For 10 years, we have exchanged students and performers between our two cities. Jejudo has sent 3 statues over the years and this will be our first. A 30 inch bronzed Snoopy will be placed on a 36 inch pedestal that will be made in Jejudo and placed on a street named “Santa Rosa”. Help send the Snoopy Monument and taste some wine… all for  $20. This Wednesday is  Nascar Night (Whoo Hoo!)  This is a great opportunity to see musical group, “Juan Boulder”- featuring the West End’s own Bob Murnane (Murnane Floors on W. 6th Street). June 25th, Saturday-  D’Argenzio winery and Time Traveler Tours Special Event- D’Argenzio Winery and  Time Traveler Tours are teaming up to give a  short walking tour of Railroad Square that will show guests where the Santa Rosa wine industry began. The tour will highlight old winery sites and give a history of early wine making in Santa Rosa. Wine and appetizers will served at D’Argenzio Winery after the tour.  $20 Tickets Location: Tour will meet in Railroad Square by S. R. Visitor’s Center. Time: 3- 5 p.m.

June 28th , Tuesday- Something Ventured 5 p.m. 7:30 p.m. A documentary about Silicon Valley’s first venture capitalists and the companies they helped bring to life. The film also includes some of the finest entrepreneurs sharing how they worked with these venture capitalists to grow world-class companies like Intel, Apple, Cisco, Atari, Genentech, Tandem and others. The other excellent band members are Shannon Rider, Paul Urguhart, Dennis Sherman, Mark Marelli, Brandon Hunt & Justin Enright. The Hubbub Club will hold a musical parade. We’re ready for a summer season of events and activities, now we just need the weather to cooperate. The West End plays Bocce at DeMeo Park every Friday night at 6:30 p.m.  West End Summer Movie nights start this Friday ( “weather permitting”. Let’s cross our fingers!) There’s lots of other things to do too… take a gander and pick  your favorites.

Don’t forget, the Kid’s Talent Show on Sunday.

May 22nd, Sunday Children’s talent show We have a few local kiddos (and need more) that want to show off their talents. Allen and Lea have graciously offered to host the kid’s talent show on Sunday, May 22 about 3pm. It will be a small “low key” talent show. Maxfield Arts and the Fun Bike Unicorn Club (FBUC) present an exciting new attraction for Harmony Festival 2011 titled The Steampunk Garage, including Santa Rosa-based builders also known as Whiskeydrunk Cycles, Todd Barricklow, Krank-Boom-Clank and The Feed Barn, all of whom are intimately entwined with the North Bay’s popular annual Hand-car Regatta. Ananta De Tally plays on June 12th.

July 10th- August 14th -Live at Julliard. Every Sunday evening- enjoy live music in a beautiful setting. Most important dates (featuring West End artists!) July 10th- Miss Kitty and the Big Dogs, August 14th- Quarter Mile Combo. Two awesome bands you will not want to miss!

May 22nd, Sunday Children’s talent show We have a few local kiddos (and need more) that want to show off their talents. Allen and Lea have graciously offered to host the kid’s talent show on Sunday, May 22 about 3pm. It will be a small “low key” talent show. Remember, low key and fun is the idea. Kids can sing, play the kazoo, lip sync, recite a poem, perform magic tricks, tell jokes, act in a skit with other kids, juggle or display tricks they’ve taught the dog.

May 23rd Monday- Bike in Movie E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial. So Co. Bicycle Coalitions Annual Bike-In Movie. The event features free, secure valet bike parking! Snacks and beverages available for purchase. Admission is $5 – $15 sliding scale.  The event will include raffle drawings and E.T. Trivia! Note: please remember to bring your bike lights, and remember that children under 18 are required by law to wear bike helmets when riding.
