It’s cold & wet and there’s bound to be crazy traffic, but hey, it’s New Years’ Eve so if you want to celebrate choose a nearby event that is close to home. Here are two options:

December 31st -  Celebrate New Year’s Eve at the Arlene Francis Center! Entertainment is the Vespertine Orchestra Bombshell Betty with Fromagique.  All Ages Welcome.  Moonlight Beer on tap.  7 bucks at the Door. Kids 10 years and under get in free. Hoping to go out and have some fun? Here are a few great things to do, all within walking distance, of course!

September 10th, Friday 6 p.m.- West End Summer Bocce- Only 2 Bocce nights left this season! Join your friends and neighbors at beautiful DeMeo Park. Bring food to share- and bundle up. Bocce is an all age, dog friendly event. To keep the event enjoyable and comfortable for all- please remember to observe Park rules: No glass, dogs on leashes. The West End Neighborhood Association has procured a Special Alcohol Permit and Lavatory for West End Summer Bocce. West End Bocce is also on facebook

Note: We will have Earle Fest Tickets available for sale at Bocce this Friday.

2 events at 99 Sixth Street- The Arlene Francis Center (formerly known as The New College) this week.   September 9th, Thursday Evening- A Show in the Hood…A night of music featuring bands: Bobby Joe Ebola and the Children MacNuggits, Sex and Machines, Hobo Gobblins and West End Favorite Deluxe Buckets. September 10th, Friday Evening- Carnival of Chaos- A highly visual, verbal & physical comedy show in a cabaret like setting. $10-$20 Doors open @ 7pm for drinks and music, then 8pm show.

Permission to shamelessly brag please! The West End is rich with talented individuals and West End residents are within walking distance of many great venues to see them. This is the September calendar.

September 8th, Wednesday- Quarter Mile Combo opens for Southern Culture on the Skid. Quarter Mile Combo:You hear pure rockin’ Americana Rockabilly from this 4 piece act! The Quarter Mile Combos backbone is kept solid by drummer Gary Daly, and Todd Troublemaker’s upright bass slappin’. The West End’s own Justin Barr slings sweeping guitar solos and riffs alongside powerhouse vocalist, front woman, Nettie Hammar. With their recent release of “Motels, Gas and Beer”, The Quarter Mile Combo’s live show will take you down an electrifying winding road of good time rock n roll! An evening of strange comedy, insane juggling, sardonic magic, musical parody and dangerous stunts! September 24th, Friday- St. Peterbilt. How romantical! Picture you and your honey overlooking the beautiful vineyards of Alexander Valley, enjoying a picnic dinner with a delicious Hanna wine, and dancin to the double clutchin-ist, cop dodgin-ist, jack knifein-ist trucker band in this fine county! Don’t miss St. Peterbilt , with West End’s Justin Barr on guitar,performing at the last KRUSH Hanna Winery Concert. It’s guaranteed fun in a beautiful setting. Location: Hanna Winery Music starts at 6pm. Free.

September 24th, Friday- CHOPS – The unveiling of Locust-Motive an evening of innovative art. Start off the Handcar Regatta Weekend by being one of the first to view the teen-designed and fabricated handcar. View other contraptions by Krank-Boom-Clank, Arn Anderson and Whiskey Drunk Cycles . Music and food. Location: Chop’s Teen Club corner of W. 6th & Adams. 5 to 7 p.m. Veil falls at 5:30- Don’t miss it!

September 25th, Saturday- Earle Fest- A celebration of Americana Music Bands: Dave Alvin & The Guilty Women, James McMurtry, The Belleville Outfit, St. Peterbilt & more!  Outdoor open seating. Beach chairs, lawn chairs and blankets welcome. Food and beverages for sale on site. No coolers, pets or carry-in alcohol. Location: Earle Baum Center 4539 Occidental Rd. September 30th, Thursday- Miss Kitty & the Big Dogs Jump, Swing & Blues. Excellent vocals and musicians including the West End’s own Tim Sarter. Miss Kitty will have everyone dancing. Location: Aubergine after Dark 755 Petaluma Blvd, Sebastopol. Show at 8 p.m. Beginner swing dance class at 6:30
