The Naked Ladies are blooming… for some that heralds the end of Summer days. But wait! The weather is still gorgeous and there’s many fun things to do…..

August 19th, Friday at 8:00pm – August 28th at 2:00pm- Great War Chronicle An elderly woman tells her grandchildren of her early years with their grandfather, when the demands of war sadly separated them in a rock opera production. 6th Street Playhouse presents a rare opportunity to see a professionally produced workshop production of the new musical “Great War Chronicle” written by a noted Bay Area composer, featuring a romantic story set against a historical backdrop. August  20th, Saturday- The No. CA Bicycle Expo. Your destination for all things bike. Features a Ride About Town, lots of bikes, accessories, clothes & bike inspired arts and crafts. August 20th- Saturday. Redwood Empire Live Steamers Interactive Museum-Come ride this Saturday! Trains will soon be a reality in Santa Rosa. Here’s an opportunity to teach you kids about trains.  Only a few more runs left before the trains are put up for the winter.  The weather is suppose to be perfect for trains and picnics, so pack up the kids, bring a picnic basket and spend the afternoon.Westender Andre Siedentopf  (RELSIM member) says if you mention you saw this event on their website or Facebook- you will get a free ride!! August  20th &  21st, Saturday & Sunday- Cotati Accordion Festival. West End Musicians- Tim Sarter & Amber Lee Baker will perform.  Mad Maggies (Celtic Polka)  The Mad Maggies are seven musicians from the San Francisco Bay Area who play roots-driven, rowdy folk fusion with a dash of hot pepper and a swig of slivovitz — they kick up some dust. the West End’s own Tim Sarter on Bass. The West End’s own squeezebox goddess,  Amber Lee Baker will perform both days and be in the Accordion Babes pageant. (Can’t miss that!) For full schedule:  Cotati Accordion Festival

August 21st, Sunday at 10 a.m.- Pug Play Day at DeTurk Round Barn Dog Park. Piles of Pugs play and cavort. It’s a sight to see. Pug Play Day is held the 3rd Sunday of every month. For more info: Lisa Howard

Rain?! What the heck was that about? Well, never mind. Summer is in full swing.
The West End Neighborhood Association Bicycle Parade and BBQ is on July 16th, Saturday. Mark it on your calendars! The Bike parade will start at 1 p.m. at DeMeo Park. BBQ will start at 3 p.m. at DeMeo Park. Don’t forget to decorate your bike!

Bocce, wine and friends- Every Thursday night 4- 8 p.m.- D’Argenzio Winery holds Wine Down Thursday…. they have just finished they bocce courts and they are awesome.  Every Friday night- West End Summer Bocce. Celebrate the West End- neighbors and friends, great food and bocce in a family & kid environment. Well behaved dogs are invited to attend. Bring food or drink to share.

July 1-  Summer Nights at Railroad Square.  A Summer Street Party featuring wine tasting, live music, outdoor dining, crafters and art. The event is free, with wine tasting available for $20 with proceeds benefiting local non-profit organizations.  Location: Historic Railroad Square- 4th Street from Wilson to Davis Street. July 2nd- First Saturday Clean up This Independence Weekend also celebrate your interdependence by cleaning up the Creek. The Creek is part of our water supply, provides us with recreation, contributes to wildlife habitat and the peace of mind of a babbling brook. Come join us Saturday. We will clean the Creek and if anybody is interested do some weeding and cleanup at the park. Lunch will be provided, pizza. So come join us as we take care of most valuable asset. July 3rd, Sunday- Go for a Train Ride. West Ender Andre Siedentopf and the Redwood Empire Live Steamers invite you to come for a train ride this 4th of July weekend. Mention you saw invitation on Facebook and you’ll get 1st ride FREE. Only a $1 a ride after that. The Redwood Empire Live Steamers is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving Sonoma Counties Railroad history through the re-creation, in miniature, of railroad equipment and historic landmarks. The Bocce Cleanup was a wonderful warm up to the season. Neighbors worked, socialized and ate bake goods from the West End Charter School bake sale. Opening night for Bocce is Friday May 14th. West End Neighborhood Yard sale this Saturday May 1st. (rain date May 8th).

Monday April 26th 6 p.m.-  Museum on the Square public meeting. The proposed project will adapt and reuse 520 Third St. (aka AT&T building) for cultural, commercial and residential. Wednesday April 28th at 8 p.m.- Songwriter Showcase: Rob Heath, Ken Risling ( West End artist) and Mike Ehlers. An evening of great acoustic, original music from seasoned songcrafters. The “songwriters in the round” format will keep all three artists on the stage in rotation, trading songs and stories.  Ken Risling’s songs have won numerous awards. With a warm manner and inviting voice, he is perhaps best known for delivering heartfelt tales. Ken’s songs range in genre from folk, country, 50′s blues, swing to modern rock. Location: Hopmonk Tavern 230 Petaluma Ave, Sebastopol.

Friday April 30th at 4:30 p.m.- Chops Teen Club Variety Showcase. The evening will showcase Chop’s teen member’s accomplishments in music, dance, fashion, art, martial arts and more. Appetizers will be served by the Chop’s Teen Catering Crew. Performances will take place from 5:00- 6:16 p.m. Come for the entertainment and experience the Chop’s Teen Club mission in action. Saturday May 1st 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.-  West End Neighborhood Spring Yard Sale Time for Spring Cleaning! Empty out those closets and garages. (Rain Date is May 8th). $5 donation if you would like to participate- this covers costs of ads, signs that will be put up (and taken down) on the day of sale. Want to purge but don’t want to sell? The West End Charter School yard sale welcomes your donations. Drop them off at 127 W. 6th Street from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, April 29th.

Sunday May 2nd Noon to 6 p.m. The Second Annual Mostly Python. The Toad will be closing 5th Street down and have bands and brilliant actors performing brilliant sketches. A day to remember, special menus and vast quantities of beer. Toad in the hole.
