March will bring  Mardi Gras, the first day of Spring and our first West End meeting in the DeTurk Round Barn. Always lots to do in and around the West End. Thursdays Nights in March 4- 8 p.m. mean Wine Down Thirsty Thursdays at D’Argenzio Winery/ Santa Rosa Vintner’s Square.  It’s a great time to mingle, drink wine, perhaps enjoy a cigar. It’s all up to you. Enjoy the dining from the Foodie truck. Location: Santa Rosa Vintner’s Square 1301- 1305 Cleveland Ave  Time: 4- 8 p.m.

Wednesdays  Nights in March at 7 p.m. mean The Pick Me Up Music Revue at the Last Day Saloon. Enjoy local and traveling folk and Americana musicians- shows produced by The North Bay Hootenanny. Location: Last Day Saloon 120 5th Street Time: Doors open at 7 p.m.

March 4th, Friday- The Final Scene A romp that will keep you on the edge of your seat. A soap opera diva works hard to avoid her impending doom in the script. Will she live, end up in a coma or find herself on the unemployment line? Written by local playwright Gene Abravaya. March 4th- March 27th. March 4th, Friday- First Friday Night Sky are programs are offered on the first Friday of the months September through December of 2010; and, February through May of 2011. These programs, offered at 7:00 and 8:30pm, will be the only planetarium presentations given on these first Friday weekends. First Friday Night Sky content will vary with emphasis on the stars, constellation, planets, and other interesting facts in or about the sky that night. Although admission is free; donations to support SRJC’s Planetarium are gratefully appreciated. Seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis; so arrive early enough to pick up your free parking permit, return it to your vehicle, and arrive back in the planetarium by the scheduled start time. March 5th, Saturday- First Saturday Cleanup Help take care of restored Santa Rosa Creek flowing through the heart of downtown on the first Saturday of every month. The Greenway provides a home for river otter, kingfishers, egrets, and steelhead trout as well as parks, public art, and recreation along the six mile creek trail. Work and then have pizza afterward. Please bring utensils so we may keep our trash impact low. Contribution to lunch, desserts, fruit and appetizers are always welcome. Location: Meet at Olive Park Time: 10 a.m. First Saturday Cleanup

March 9th, Wednesday- FREE Workshop: “Killing Two Birds With One Stone – Saving Energy by Saving Water” – Monthly Clean Energy Series workshops hosted by the Clean Energy Advocate (CEA) start March 9th from 6-7p.  Click here to RSVP. The CEA is a pilot program within Sonoma County which provides an independent, unbiased advocate to assist homeowners in navigating the renewable energy, energy efficiency, and water-use efficiency upgrade process. Rialto Cinemas Film Festival will be held this March and April at the 6th Street Playhouse.   Films are “Carlos’, “Phil Ochs: There but for fortune”, “Kings of Pastry” and “Circo”. See Rialto Cinemas to see film info, advance tickets and show times. Films are $10, $8 for seniors and children. The 2010-11 National Theater Live will also be presented at 6th Street Playhouse.

Call For Artists!- The Gateways Graffiti Program is seeking two artists to design and implement two murals (one per artist). Amber Lee Baker in Alpha . Click Here! Amber is “Dominating” the local music scene. Her second Album  “Indelible” is in the works and includes 8 well crafted songs, including “Alpha” .  There is a Kickstarter Fundraiser to help fund this fabulous album. It’s a fun way for to pre-buy the album and get some great extras. The more you pledge, the more you get…. a private house concert for you and 10 friends, accordion lessons, T-shirts and more. Congrats to Ken Risling! His song won the November Best Song (beating out 12 others) at the Songwriter’s competition with this his Awesome song ,”Shameless Love”. He performed the song with his daughter, Oona Risling-Sholl. Check out “Shameless Love”- Click here!

This live art auction is the first fundraiser directly benefiting the City of Santa Rosa Arts Program. It showcases local and regional artists such as West End Artist William Smith. The West End Neighborhood is “home” to many resident artists- from songwriters to musicians to artists in various mediums. One of the best benefits of living here is the opportunity to appreciate the skill, inventiveness and the gifts of our own neighborhood community. Put these dates on your calendar!

August 4th, Wednesday 6 p.m.- West End songwriter Ken Risling has qualified for the Petaluma West Coast Songwriters Playoff which will be at the Mystic Theater, Petaluma. Ken will perform one of his songs, accompanied by his very talented daughter, Oona Risling-Sholl. Joining him will be nine other talented songwriters as they all vie for “Best Song of the Year” recognition. Mystic Theater, Petaluma

August 5th, Thursday 7:30 p.m.- D. G. Sculpture Studio and Gallery invites you to attend a musical celebration with visionary musician Manfred Bleffert. This artist has has dedicated his life to developing new music. Although his compositions come out of the stream of 20th century new music, his studies have encompassed music from all cultures and times. D. G. Summer continues and so do the enjoyable events.

Friday, July 23rd at 5 p.m.- CHOP’s Summer Art Gala Come to see the creativity and artistic endeavors of the Chop’s Teen Club members. Art displayed  from the Side by Side Professional Artist Series. Come enjoy hors d’eouvres by Chop’s Catering Crew and live music by Brody Cumming. Check out the fantastic programs for teens such as Dog Care & Agility, Basic Welding with local welding artist Arn Anderson, Chop’s Jam Band, Barista classes and More!

West End Summer Bocce-  Every Friday at 6 p.m. at DeMeo Park. Join your friends and neighbors at beautiful DeMeo Park. Bring food and drinks to share. This is an all age, dog friendly event. To keep the event enjoyable and comfortable for all- please remember to observe Park rules: No glass, dogs on leashes. The West End Neighborhood Association has procured a Special Alcohol Permit and Lavatory for West End Summer Bocce. Wear layers for chilly nights.
