Spring is just around the corner. Time to get active. Mark these important dates on your calendar.

March 3, Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.- City of S. R.  Neighborhood Meeting for New Railroad Square Project (SMART site). Meeting location: Chop’s DeMeo Teen Club, 509 Adams Street. You are invited to attend a meeting regarding the New Railroad Square Project. The project is a proposed mixed use, transit-oriented development- the complete 291,000 SF project will ultimately be developed to over 4 distinct blocks.To be discussed: A Conditional Use Permit for Alcoholic beverage sales, Outdoor dining, Restaurant serving alcohol, Residential- single family attached and parking structure abutting residential.  New Railroad Square Neighborhood Meeting Questions or comments to Bill Rose, City of S. March 5th, Friday- Street Sweeping. Move your cars off the curb for early morning cleaning of debris and leaves. This is especially important during the rainy season.

April 24th, Saturday at 11 a.m.- West End Annual Bocce Court cleanup at DeMeo Park. Neighbors prepare the courts for our Summer bocce season. Bring tools and gloves. Don’t forget a hat and sunblock.

May 1, Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.- West End Neighborhood Garage sale. It’s time for Spring Cleaning! Join your neighbors in reducing storage and making room. The garage sale will be publicized- if you would like to participate pitch in $5 to help cover the costs. Rain Day – May 8th.

May 14th, Friday 6 p.m.- West End Summer Bocce season begins. Join your friends and neighbors to dine, dish the dirt and, of course, play bocce! Bring food or drink to share. Everyone is welcomed. A good event for children and well-behaved dogs. Season ends on Sept. 17th.

Restaurant Week Feb 22 to 28th – This is an excellent time to visit Stark’s Steakhouse .     Almost 90 Sonoma County Restaurants have prepared special menus with three courses at fixed prices of $19, $29 or $39 per person. On Thursday night, Railroad Square Merchants were treated to a special performance by “Hank Williams and his Band” courtesy of the 6th Street Playhouse. SMART has been informed that the venue originally booked for their Feb. 11 workshop in Santa Rosa is no longer available. Thus that meeting has been moved to the Finley Community Center, 2060 W. College Ave., Santa Rosa. For more info SMART Feb 11th Meeting- New location

If you want to give input to SMART about their rail car’s amenities- attend the Wednesday night meeting. No need to travel far for holiday events… just walk out your front door.

December 9, Wednesday 7 p.m. at CHOPS, 509 Adams Street -SMART Vehicle Workshop. December 12, Saturday at 6 p.m.- Memorial Hospice Tree lighting ceremony in Depot Park , Railroad Square. Music, sing-alongs, candlelight, and remembrances — a celebration of life. An inspirational event for the Santa Rosa community that takes place in Historic Railroad Square.

December Holiday Show (Time varies for more info- Click here!) at 6th Street Playhouse, 52 W. 6th Street.  “Ham for the Holidays” Set on Christmas Eve in 1939, a group of actors who work at a small radio station await the arrival of Orson Welles. Hilarity ensues through a long, blizzardy night toward Christmas morning in this new family-friendly seasonal treat sprinkled with holiday music from the era.

December Global Lens Series (Times vary for more info- Click here!) North Bay Film and Art Collective, 99 6th Street.  Immerse yourself in an international way- some dates include food, live entertainment and themed presentations. Make a date to see a film- the series ends December 20th.

The Fall West End Neighborhood Association meeting was well attended with over 50 folks joining in to hear the latest news. We thank our guest speaker Raissa de la Rosa, City of Santa Rosa Economic Development. She spoke briefly on what the City is doing to vitalize the downtown. North Bay Film & Art Collective 99 Sixth St    Nov. 19 through Dec. 20  NBFAC invites you to join us on a 5 week exploration of international film, food and live entertainment.   Each Sat. night films with foods from the region, collaborating with local restaurants and wineries to further enhance the cultural experience. This event marks the first installment of culture and community that fulfills the North Bay Film & Art Collective’s mission of being a place that celebrates diversity and storytelling not found in your traditional theater. Dear Lea and West Ender’s, Gene and I went to the 6PM showing of the International Film Series at “New School” on Wilson and W. 6th. It was a lovely film from Brazil. We were served piping hot stuffed mushrooms and Korbel Sparkling Wine!!!! There was popcorn and candy available. We sat on a comfy couch, watching a wonderful big screen. We were very impressed. Tomorrow there is a Chinese film, dinner and wine pairings from Gary Chu’s….including “Martini Prawns” for any of you who know them!!!! Starts at 7PM, $30.00/couple covers the entire evening…..Is this possible???? ONLY in our neighborhood!!! Hope to see you there!!!!!! betsy and gene

Thursday, November 19th at 1 p.m. at the Visitor’s Center/Depot in Historic Railroad Square- West End Walking tour “Ribbon Cutting”. Join your friends and neighbors for the debut of the new Santa Rosa’s Historic West End Walking Tour brochure.  This self-directed tour is a wonderful resource for residents or visitors who want to know more about Railroad Square and the West End neighborhoods.  Refreshments will be served.

Learn about the changes in the Railroad Corridor subarea. The Railroad Corridor sub area contains the Cleveland/Wilson Street area which greatly affects the West End neighborhood.
