It was an awesome West End Spring Meeting. Over 50 neighbors and friends came out to hear the latest news, discuss recent issues and to meet up with other neighbors. We heard how we can work as a collective team to fight crime in the neighborhood. We also had our newest neighbor attend (see photo  below).

Our newest West Ender was at the meeting

For those of you who did not attend, Jennifer Watson has prepared this brief recap of our featured speakers.

Sergeant Rich Celli and his colleague Officer Dan Marincik attended the neighborhood meeting last week to speak about the recent drug-related arrests and to commend the neighborhood on our involvement.  Sgt. Celli and Officer Marincik want to encourage neighbors to continue to call to report suspicious activity, people or vehicles.   Remember that this is our neighborhood, not the drug dealers.  Let’s work together with the Police so this crew gets the message that selling drugs is not OK in our neighborhood! Here is how you can help…

Non-Emergency Dispatch, 528-5222 – To report suspicious people, vehicles or activity.  Remember that any description you have can really help (gender, race, approx height, weight, clothing, car color, address, etc.)

Graffiti Hotline, 543-3499 – To report graffiti.  There has been a spike in graffiti around the city and in our neighborhood.  There is once again a member of SR Police actively responding to reports called into the Graffiti Hotline.  If you see graffiti ‘in progress’, please call Non-Emergency Dispatch.

We are extremely fortunate to have the Downtown Enforcement Team covering our neighborhood. If you are aware of an emerging or existing pattern of issues report to Non-Emergency Dispatch (available 24/7) first and then follow up with Sergeant Celli or Officer Dan Marincik (Not on call 24/7, they will respond when they are able.)

Sergeant Rich Celli, 543-3639, rcelli@srcity.org – Sergeant Celli is in charge of the ‘Downtown Enforcement Team’ and Beat 9 (he also handles Traffic.)  He works on the ‘big picture’ and is also out on the streets of our neighborhood.

Officer Dan Marincik, 543-3600 ext 3879, dmarincik@srcity.org –Officer Marincik is part of the ‘Downtown Enforcement Team’ and his active patrol area includes our neighborhood.

For more information about the March 12th arrests on Lincoln & Ripley Streets, read the press release from Sgt. Richard Celli and view the Press Democrat article

Gaye LeBaron: Discussions over Santa Rosa Plaza nothing new

For over 35 years, many citizens have felt that downtown Santa Rosa has been divided by monolith called the Santa Rosa Plaza. Recently, the mall owner/manager Simon Property Group (aka the largest real estate company in the U.S.) while going through the City’s Design review process completely refuses to improve the situation in anyway. Read Gaye LeBaron’s fascinating look at the long running, infamous debate.

Mail stolen from box. A Jefferson Street neighbor reports: A neighbor told me that some of my mail was at his back door under a step. I left 6 envelopes in my mailbox at 9am to be picked up by the mailperson in the afternoon.  Evidently before she arrived it was stolen.  There were 5 envelops with checks in them – one recovered by the neighbor.  I put a stop payment on all the checks and reported this to SRPD. It is a sad state now that I can not even leave outgoing mail in my personal mailbox on the porch. Please let others know that they may also have had outgoing mail taken from their box on Friday. Thanks Susan S Hayes

The birds are singing, the sun is shining… Is it winter time? Western Farm is in the news, SMART has announced that they will be able to extend the line to the Guerneville Road Station and a house of despair gets hope.

Neighbors:

Thank Goodness!  This once glorious historic building has had a very sad history of neglect and abuse. West Enders Betsy Hall and Gene Wright have purchased the house on the corner of 7th and Davis and will slowly revive the property. They plan to make it a property that will make the West End proud.  It’s a big project but it will make such a difference to this neighborhood. Thank you!

Neighborhood Watch works!

Disturbance of the Peace- Ripley Court area. Upper West End reports a number of large parties over the weekend. On Saturday the police responded numerous times, with people dispersing then returning to continue after police left. There was apparently a large fight (that was around 2:00 AM). Noisy Revelers parked on nearby streets, arriving and leaving until very late.
This is not the first time Upper West End has been disturbed by activities at Ripley Court, but this seems like an escalation. As neighbors, we must work together to resolve this issue. Neighbors are asked to call the police immediately to report suspicious or disturbing activities- 528-5222. Also, if you witnessed or have additional information about this situation please let us know: westend@sonic.net

Bikes are evidently a popular item for theft. Living downtown… most of us have bikes to get around. Many neighbors are serious Grand Fondo type bike riders and a few residents have custom made creations. Let’s be diligent about protecting our bikes. Watch for suspicious people especially when they are where they don’t belong… like on your neighbor’s property.

Hey Guys
Finn’s bike was stolen last week too. We figure out of our driveway here on Jefferson.  We aren’t big lock everything up kind of people but just a heads up, they are out there….

Two reports came in today… limited information available at this time. Will report more info when & if available. In the meantime, use this info to raise the awareness around the neighborhood.

October 22nd, Saturday- At CHOP’s -Male suspect pulled out bolt cutters and tried to steal one of the Teen Club members bike. This was in broad daylight right in front of the front door. Luckily a supervisor saw him and confronted him. In doing so….. Saved the bike, but the man ran off into the neighborhood. The supervisor did call the police to let them know about the suspicious behavior and to give them a description of what he looked like.

This is a bummer… but seems like it should be an easy thing to spot. Be on the look out!

Hi I was hoping you could print a crime report for me.  My Burning Man Tricycle was stolen from my gated back yard.  It was a funky blue tricycle with fake black fur glued to the seat, red sequin fabric on the bar that connects the two wheels, a license plate from Jalisco Mexico on the back, two baskets- the one in front was black and newish, the one in the back was white, and there were some crazy black and red fuzzy spiders on the basket.  The tricycle isn’t really worth anything except to me.  It was taken from my back yard on 10th and Ripley.  If you see it my number is 707-321-7786

Be mindful- if you see someone on your neighbors property that is not your neighbor… give you neighbor a call to check in. If it’s really suspicious- call SRPD.

Hi,   I wanted to report a crime.  Last night (August 4th) the Yakima bicycle roof rack was stolen off my car, which was parked under a streetlight in front of my house on Pierson St.  The rack was locked onto the car, so the thief had to either pick the locks or saw through the lower attachments.  The rack was valued at approximately $700.
