The Bocce Cleanup was a wonderful warm up to the season. Neighbors worked, socialized and ate bake goods from the West End Charter School bake sale. Opening night for Bocce is Friday May 14th. West End Neighborhood Yard sale this Saturday May 1st. (rain date May 8th).

Monday April 26th 6 p.m.-  Museum on the Square public meeting. The proposed project will adapt and reuse 520 Third St. (aka AT&T building) for cultural, commercial and residential. Wednesday April 28th at 8 p.m.- Songwriter Showcase: Rob Heath, Ken Risling ( West End artist) and Mike Ehlers. An evening of great acoustic, original music from seasoned songcrafters. The “songwriters in the round” format will keep all three artists on the stage in rotation, trading songs and stories.  Ken Risling’s songs have won numerous awards. With a warm manner and inviting voice, he is perhaps best known for delivering heartfelt tales. Ken’s songs range in genre from folk, country, 50’s blues, swing to modern rock. Location: Hopmonk Tavern 230 Petaluma Ave, Sebastopol.

Friday April 30th at 4:30 p.m.- Chops Teen Club Variety Showcase. The evening will showcase Chop’s teen member’s accomplishments in music, dance, fashion, art, martial arts and more. Appetizers will be served by the Chop’s Teen Catering Crew. Performances will take place from 5:00- 6:16 p.m. Come for the entertainment and experience the Chop’s Teen Club mission in action. (Rain Date is May 8th). $5 donation if you would like to participate- this covers costs of ads, signs that will be put up (and taken down) on the day of sale. Want to purge but don’t want to sell? The West End Charter School yard sale welcomes your donations. Drop them off at 127 W. 6th Street from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, April 29th.

Sunday May 2nd Noon to 6 p.m. The Second Annual Mostly Python. The Toad will be closing 5th Street down and have bands and brilliant actors performing brilliant sketches. A day to remember, special menus and vast quantities of beer. Toad in the hole.

Spring is here and there are lots of ways to enjoy the outdoors. The West End is home to many gifted artists and performers. Take note of the many opportunities to support our local talent.

The West End Charter School has two fund raisers (see below) – a bake sale on Bocce clean up day and a yard sale. They welcome your support through donations and purchases. Questions? email to info@WECS.us

April 25th, Sunday 10 a.m.- Keep the Tour 10 k Fun Run- A widepread effort and campaign to help the Amgen Tour of California continue to be a successful and integral part of our Santa Rosa community. For walkers or runners, the fun run starts on Third Street (@ B St.) in the heart of downtown Santa Rosa and follows a six mile loop along the scenic Prince Memorial Greenway before finishing near the entrance to Gateway Park, just a few short blocks from lots of fun and festivities in Old Court House Square. Every Sunday Night – West End DJ Katie Vrooman has a new specialty radio show called  “Great Dames, Vintage Chicks,” a collection of torch singers, big band singers and jazz vocalists from the 1930’s- 1960’s. Katie hand selects all the music from the show and talks about it as well. You can also hear Katie on Monday- Friday during mid-day- But the Sunday night show (10 p.m. to midnight) is about female singers who “carry the torch”. The KRUSH 95.9

De Turk Round Barn Park now under construction- The area on the south side of the park is being cleared for the new dog park. The West End Historic Rose garden will be moved to a new location. More info, dates and details to follow!

West End Summer Bocce is right around the corner. Your West End Neighborhood Association dues pay for the lavatory for our Summer Bocce season. Pay your dues by Pay Pal on our website or mail your check, payable to the West End Neighborhood Association to : Dan Wright, 512 Jefferson Street, Santa Rosa CA 95401. $10 suggested but any amount appreciated.

West End Feral Cat Colony update. There are approximately 30 cats in this colony and most of them have been fixed, given shots and flea protection (at no cost!) from Forgotten Felines. West End Neighbor Charly Thomas has set up feeding stations. Contributions for Forgotten Felines or cat food to Charly would be greatly appreciated.  These cats eat just over 3- 25 lb bags of cat food a month. Drop off food (25 lb Costco bag of adult cat food preferred) at 124 W. 6th.

March 3, Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.- City of S. R.  Neighborhood Meeting for New Railroad Square Project (SMART site). Meeting location: Chop’s DeMeo Teen Club, 509 Adams Street. You are invited to attend a meeting regarding the New Railroad Square Project. Nissan Public Art Project- The intersection of Santa Rosa Avenue and South A Street will soon be home to one of three proposals, now on display at the Santa Rosa Plaza Mall until Oc tober 25th.  For complete project details- click here!     You are invited to view the artists’ maquettes, designs and other display material they provide. Railroad Corridor Clean up- We would like to thank the Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit District (SMART) for thoroughly cleaning up the Railroad Corridor. West End residents and business owners greatly appreciate having this area clean and safe.

West End- Sunday, October 4th- West End Full Moon Tour Discover the Secrets of the West End.  Travel to a different time, immerse yourself in the aroma of freshly baking sour dough, enjoy the music from another era-  all under the full moon of the West End. You won’t want to miss this one of a kind event.   The tour includes a musical performance by the Fondettes at Stark’s Steakhouse.  Stark’s will be offering a special Happy Hour menu and a West End Full Moon Cocktail. The walking tour begins at 6:15 p.m. at Depot Park in Railroad Square, Santa Rosa. Entire Tour will last about 3 hours- walking portion about 2 hours.  Tickets are $10 Buy tickets here! Railroad Square-

October 3rd, Saturday  9 a.m. to noon- Prince Memorial Greenway clean up. Location: Meet at the Sonoma Outfitters store at 145 West Third Street, Santa Rosa.  The staff at Sonoma Outfitters has started regular trail maintenance and creek clean ups and asks all outdoor aficionados to pitch in to prepare the creek for the winter rains. They’ve  been collecting some very nice gifts and prizes to hand out to volunteers. Get out and enjoy our fabulous weather!

October  3rd Saturday  9:30 a.m.Walk About Santa Rosa St. Rose Historic Neighborhood and West SRJC Neighborhoods led by Denise Hill, St. Rose Historic District. Meet at Court House Square. Last Saturday’s Bocce clean up was a huge success. Several hardworking neighbors spread wood chips and fresh bocce mix to make DeMeo Park ready for this year’s season. Bocce mix and lavatory has been donated by the West End Neighborhood Association. Your dues at work!

The Hennepin Crawler is in the Luther Burbank Parade and needs flowers for decoration. Flowers need to be tough enough to last 15 hours. Red and white colors most preferred.
