Community: Advisory of increased package thefts.  The Santa Rosa Police Department has received numerous reports of package thefts from the doorsteps of residences over the past month. Although there have been reports of these thefts all over Santa Rosa, the highest frequencies of occurrence have been in the downtown and Julliard Park neighborhoods. The SRPD Property Crimes Unit has been working with victims and area residents to identify people responsible for committing these thefts, and help educate the public on ways to deter those committing these thefts, and lessen the possibility of becoming a victim. The Santa Rosa Police Department Property Crimes Unit has reached out to local and government delivery services to work together to report suspicious activities which are often associated with these types of thefts. For tips to lessen the chances of becoming a victim & some steps you can take to help keep your packages safe go to: https://local.nixle.com/alert/5549722/?sub_id=947091

Fact: Fats, Oils, and Grease Should Never Go Down the Drain! To avoid a costly sewage back-up at your home or in your neighborhood, properly dispose of fats, oils, and grease. Collect liquid grease and oils in a sealable container and let it cool, wipe pans clean with a paper towel and put it in the trash. Scrape off excess food from pots, pans, and plates before rinsing them in the sink with cold water.
Have a lot of cooking oil? Don’t throw it in the trash. Bulk oils should be recycled (e.g. household fryer oil). Several Sonoma County restaurants accept clean, liquid vegetable oil that is mostly free of any solids, meat scraps, or water. Check www.recyclenow.org and search “oil, cooking/grease” for a complete listing of locations.
