Earth Day 2014, Clean Up DeTurk Round Barn Park

What a better way to celebrate Earth Day than cleaning up DeTurk Round Barn Park or Prince Memorial Greenway? This Saturday, April 19th 9:30 to 11:30 come out and spend a little time caring for our parks.  SR’s  Earth Day Festival is scheduled for later that day 12 to 4 p.m. in Courthouse Square.  West End residents live within an easy walk or bike ride to the festival. Clean up your community, raise your environmental awareness, recycle items and more!

April 19th, Saturday 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.- Earth Day Clean Up at DeTurk Round Barn Park. Help pull weeds and spread mulch around the perimeter of the historic DeTurk Round Barn and in the park area, located in the West End Neighborhood. This event is family-friendly. Refreshments and some tools will be provided. Bring your weeding tool or rake and remember to wear a hat and sturdy shoes. April 19th, Saturday 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.- Earth day on the Greenway (ages 5 to adult)- Celebrate Earth Day’s 44th birthday on the Prince Memorial Greenway. Help with a cleanup of the S. R. Creek, native plant care and trail maintenance. Tools and refreshments provided. April 19th, Saturday 12 to 4 p.m.- 5th Annual Earth Day Festival. The community is invited to learn about local environmental organizations, green products and water-use efficiency goals. Lots of eco-art activities and games for kids. A good time to lighten your load: a Computer Recycling Center Van will accept broken or worn our appliances (nothing bigger than a microwave); Interstate Battery will be collecting used car and household batteries; Free Book Mobile will accept books.
