SMART is upgrading all of its at-grade crossings. Upgrade work includes replacing the existing old wood crossings with smooth concrete panels and new track where it crosses roadways. People have already noticed that these improved crossings are providing immediate benefits. The new crossings eliminate the old bumpy ride, and are safer and easier to navigate for wheelchairs, bicycles and cars. Grade crossing upgrades require that the road be closed at the rail crossing the entire time. Generally, the daily work will start at around 7:00 AM and end around 6:00 PM. SMART
