April begins, Easter Dogs, pop up dining

 Welcome April! Easter is this Sunday and we will still have a West End Small Dog Hour and West End Poodle Party at DeTurk Round Barn Dog park.  We’ll have a photo station set up for you to take pictures so bring your doggies in all their Easter finery.

April 5th, Thursday ~ArtFest 2012 Opening Reception.  Chop’s teen and staff artwork will be featured at the Finley Community Center from April 3-26. Neighbors are invited to the April 5th reception. Location: Finley Community Center 2060 W. College Avenue Time: 5:00-7:00 p.m     Chop’s Teen Club

April 6th, Friday- SRJC First Friday Night Sky Programs offered the first Friday of  March -May 2012. Show content varies with emphasis on the stars, constellations, planets, and other interesting facts in or about the sky that night. Seating on a first-come, first-served basis; arrive early enough to pick up your free parking permit, return it to  vehicle and back to planetarium by show start time. April 7th, Saturday- Indulgence- a “Pop Up” dining experience at Omelette Express. One night only, you can enjoy a 4 course cajun-creole/lebanese meal from chefs Aaron Hakeem & Maria Vieages. This is one of the new type of portable events highlighted in the Press Demo’s “Sudden Fun” article on 3/7/12. See menu. Cost is $50 per person, prepaid reservations are required. April 7th, Saturday-  First SATURDAY Cleanup (ages 6 and up welcome). Join neighbors and youth in the care of Prince Memorial Greenway the first Saturday of every month. Clean-up supplies provided. Organized by West Ender Stan Gow. For more info go to http://firstsaturdaycleanup.org Time: 10 a.m.

April 7th, Saturday-  Young Reporter Workshop for 7th and 8th graders.  This  workshop will introduce the students to county government,  promote literacy and civic engagement and it will boost writing skills and reading comprehension.   All five Sonoma County Supervisors will be attending the workshop and will be interviewed by the students.  The students will then write an article based on what they learned from the Supervisors.  Thank you Supervisors Zane, Rabbitt, Brown, Carrillo and McGuire!  The articles will be published in Kid Scoop News  and read by the 12,000 elementary grade students. April 8th, Sunday-  West End Small Dog Hour– A slower, downsized environment for the smaller dog to play in. A great time for littler dogs to meet with other like sized dogs to romp without concern. The West End Small Dog Hour is held the second Sunday of every month right before the W. E. Poodle Party. Rain will cancel the event.
