CHOPs has announced their summer program, Work Ready Program, in workforce development where kids (15yrs +) can learn what it takes to be a good employee and earn a Certificate awarded by the So. Co. Office of Education (SCOE). Teens will learn everything from writing a resume and interview techniques, to soft skills such as manners and the social skills necessary to succeed in the business world. Chops already offers training programs in welding, barista, art and more. It’s also a good place to socialize and has lots of activities like dances, music and volley ball. The 6th Street Playhouse is dedicated to providing young theater students a nurturing and challenging atmosphere where they have an opportunity of learn, grow, and express themselves through the craft of theater! Participants will receive training in the areas of acting, dance, and singing from Master instructors, culminating in a four-performance run of Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (music & lyrics by Roger Miller, book by William Hauptman, based on the novel by Mark Twain). Other classes available for Youth/Teen (Ages 3-17) and Adults available. Summer Session 2011 – Youth/Teen Class Schedule: June 6 – July 23, 2011 . Courses begin the week of June 6, 2011. June 21st, Tuesday through Friday, June 24th Financial Literacy Academy This FREE 4-day Financial Literacy Academy is designed for teens entering their junior or senior year of high school and will help them create a financial plan, effectively manage credit and debt, simplify insurance and the car-buying process, examine how choice of career and lifestyle will affect their financial plan and more! Redwood Credit Union, in partnership with local Sonoma County Schools and the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE) offers this course to young adults. * Students of Santa Rosa City Schools will be eligible to receive 1 credit.
