Do you have roses or other blooms to share? From West End Neighbor, Andre’ Siedentopf: We are building a float for the Rose Parade in a garage on Madison St. It’s a small float with a 1.5″ scale train (Engine and Caboose) on it for the train club we belong too. Check out website: http://redwoodempirels.org/ We are in need of some flowers for it and would prefer to use fresh cut instead of fake or silk. We don’t need a ton of flowers but it would be nice to have a variety especially roses.  I know there a lot of folks in the neighborhood with lots of blooming or about to bloom flowers as you last article states. Could you put the word out and let’s see if anyones willing to donate some of their flowers to us? They can call me or email me either way. My phone number is 972-3733 or email at redwoodempirels@gmail.com We would need the flowers Friday (May 20th) night before the parade, the parade is Saturday May 21st.  Here’s some pictures of the float up to this point: LINK

We’ll be working on the float this Saturday and Sunday afternoon if you want to pop over and take a look.  Thanks so much if you can do this!!

All we need is roses and blooms!

All we need is roses and blooms!

Would you like to join the parade? ATTENTION: all facebookers and families, whiskeypunks, and bicycle enthusiasts!!! May 14th, Saturday-  Help us green 10th Street (Upper West End). 2 events on the Corner of 10th & Ripley

Whole House Energy Assessment 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.  at 103 10th Street

Front Yard Renovation  1:00 – 4:00 p.m. at 125 10th Street

Whole House Energy Assessment There will be a demonstration of a Whole House Energy Assessment that shows how to gather the information to make a priority list of improvements to improve energy efficiency.  The Goal being to improve the health and safety of your home and along with that save some money over the long term.  We all think of new windows to fix our problems in reality sometimes simple measures like caulking can improve our house significantly for a little money and time.

Front Yard Renovation Friends and neighbors are coming together to help each other with a Front Yard Renovation on 10th Street.  You are welcome to stop by 1:00 – 4:00 pm at 125 10th Street.  Donate some muscle or just say hi.  We’ll have refreshments to keep you cool. The project includes clearing weeds (mostly weed-whacked the day before), laying shade cloth and cardboard, placing plants, and covering the whole thing with mulch. Volunteers can bring gloves and shovels (pointy or flat) and/or cardboard.

What is this all about? 10th Street denizen Jessica Hetherington was inspired to find a local West End project for the 350 Home & Garden Challenge (sponsored by iGrow Sonoma and Daily Acts).  Have you seen Jessica’s yard blooming at 10th and Ripley?  We all know it’s hard to tame Bermuda grass (is that possible?) and sometimes things can get so out of control it’s just plain overwhelming.  The goal of this project is to help our neighbors on the path to having an easier to care for and sustainable yard/garden.  Jessica has worked through the 350 Home & Garden Challenge to find donations of mulch and plants –thank you Jessica!

We hope to see you on Saturday!!  Contact Jennifer Watson if you have any questions: watson_jennifer@yahoo.com.
