Three events you will want to take note of on March 17th- 1) The official re-dedication of Maverick’s Plaque at DeTurk Round Barn Dog Park 2) The Grand Opening of the DeTurk Round Barn and 3) The West End Neighborhood Association Spring Meeting at the DeTurk Round Barn.

3 P.M. Re-dedication of Maverick plaque at DeTurk Dog Park– Maverick was the first So. Co. Sheriff’s K9 killed in the line of duty. On July 15, 2000 the original plaque was unveiled by Maverick’s owner/handler T. J. Van Bebber. In 2010, the entire park and barn went through a major renovation- a new plaque will be unveiled at the new dog park.

Interesting, but poignant  West End lore: Did you know that every year on the day of Maverick’s death that flowers are placed at the plaque by the family? This year, the plaque was not there but Maverick was still remembered.

3:30 P.M. Grand opening of DeTurk Round Barn– The City of Santa Rosa will hold a celebration in honor of the DeTurk Round Barn opening. This historic Round Barn that is on the National Register and a beloved symbol of our neighborhood will now be an awe-inspiring center for the whole community. Come to take a look.

7 p.m. West End Neighborhood Association Meeting– The West End Neighborhood Association will hold our Spring and Fall meetings in the DeTurk Round Barn. This is our first meeting of 2011, time to see your friends and neighbors, hear what’s happening in the neighborhood and see inside the incredible DeTurk Round Barn.
