Interesting Holiday Cooking Tips AKA What to do with Turkey grease- When cooking with grease, remember to remove grease from the pans before washing them. Do not pour hot grease down the drain even while running hot water because the grease will cool and solidify as it moves down the pipe. Freeze any excess oil and dispose of it in the trash. For large quantities drop off the grease at the Sonoma County Waste Management Center at 500 Mecham Rd, Petaluma. For more info go to Green Tip

Neighborhood Watch is the most effective and least expensive tool for ensuring the safe environment that we all want for our families. This is homeowner’s insurance that works!

Neighborhood Watch works!

Disturbance of the Peace- Ripley Court area. Upper West End reports a number of large parties over the weekend. On Saturday the police responded numerous times, with people dispersing then returning to continue after police left. There was apparently a large fight (that was around 2:00 AM). Noisy Revelers parked on nearby streets, arriving and leaving until very late.
This is not the first time Upper West End has been disturbed by activities at Ripley Court, but this seems like an escalation. As neighbors, we must work together to resolve this issue. Neighbors are asked to call the police immediately to report suspicious or disturbing activities- 528-5222. Thanksgiving… a time to reflect and be grateful for the good things in our lives.

Our Fall meeting was very informative. Special guest Supervisor Shirlee Zane came by to give us an update on SMART. Shirlee is no stranger to the West End. She frequently rides her bike through the area and said that she admires our neighborhood. She is a well-known dog lover and even brought one of her dogs to the meeting. She also opened the new DeTurk Round Barn Dog Park in March. Shirlee, also a member of the SMART board, had attended that day’s Railroad square rally in support of SMART and was pleased by the impressive showing of supporters. Her report had a positive outlook on the project.

Santa Rosa Rec & Parks reported on the current status of the DeTurk Round Barn and the events. There will be an open house on December 10th for anyone who would like to see inside of the barn and would like to inquire about renting it for events. You can bring your dog to take a photo with Santa too. Rec & Park would like to change the use permit to allow for number of people and hours. There will be a public meeting and formal process for this- so stay tuned.

Neighbors are what makes the West End special. At our meeting, new and established neighbors described their West End history. Allen Thomas gave the West End year in review… and that covered many of the events and happenings in our busy neighborhood. Good meeting!

Shirlee Zane and her Westie.
