Santa Rosa City Council will hear the Appeal regarding the De Turk Round Barn use permit at  City Hall  100 Santa Rosa Ave.  June 30, 2009 at 5:00 P.M.   AGENDA

BACKGROUND: On May 14, 2009, the Planning Commission approved (6 0) a Conditional Use Permit for use of the existing De Turk Round Barn, 819 Donahue Street, as a community center. On May 26, 2009, Lea Barron-Thomas submitted an appeal requesting that the Planning Commission’s approval of the Conditional Use Permit be modified to address neighborhood concerns. Grounds for appeal include four specific issues including parking, noise, alcohol, and the dog park.

Quick notes: Hours of operation (including set up and take down):
Monday through Thursday: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Friday: 7 am to 10 p.m.
Saturday: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Sunday: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Events over 70 people: requires a special event permit; No more than two events in any 30 day period, Parking and security plan required. Maximum occupancy of the barn is 150 people; events with more than 100 people will require additional restrooms to be placed in the park. Additional restrooms will only be open during event hours. Outdoor restrooms will be locked and removed from the park within a timely manner after the conclusion of the event.

All activities must meet City’s noise ordinance.  Amplified sound equipment (D.J., amplified band) limited to hours of 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday and 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Sundays and legal holidays.

Friday Night was a super night in the West End! Bocce was well attended and Kids Movie Night at DeTurk Round Barn Park was a great success. Thanks goes to Paul and Veronica for creating and organizing this great event.

A brief recap about the SMART site project:

As many of you know, the proposed SMART site project is  very complicated and complex. In past weeks, many of the stake holders have taken the opportunity to try to understand the current proposal. At this time, the developer and the City of Santa Rosa have applied to State of CA for a Grant. If awarded, this Grant would mandate 68 units of affordable housing above the Food & Wine Market Hall.

09:00 a.m. at the Victim Compensation and Government Claims Board – Sacramento River Room, located at 400 R Street, Sacramento,
California 95811.
The purpose of the meeting:
Local Assistance Loan and Grant Committee members discuss and vote on the Program Action Items presented and recommended for funding by Department of Housing and Community Development staff. I’ve attached the agenda. You may want to look at it too see what kind of “projects” New Railroad Square compares to.  Agenda 06-29-09

Decker St., Boyce St., and W 8th St. Sewer and Water Improvement project is moving along ahead of schedule. The sewer and water system have been completed on Decker St. and Boyce St. The contractor is working to finish the sewer and water in W. 8th St. Concurrently, with the sewer and water improvements, portions of the sidewalk are being repaired. The next phase of construction will be removing and replacing the roadway paving. The project is expected to be completed by early August.

West End Performer: We have many talented residents in the West End- One of them; Vlad Levintansky is a well-known clown who has performed around the world. Many of you have probably met him (and his very large dog, Emma) at the dog park or at bocce. June 15th 4-6 p.m.  New Railroad Square Associates will present a PowerPoint presentation to review their current development program. Discussion and questions to follow. Meeting location: Carlile-Macy, which is located at 15 Third Street.

Street Construction in the West End. The Santa Rosa Public Works department has been working hard to install new water and sewer service to parts of West Eighth , Boyce and Decker streets.  The project is starting to wind down. Neighbors will miss probably not miss the trucks’s 7:30 a.m. “Back up”  beeping.

West End Dogs is up and running in the web site’s photo gallery. If  you would like to have your dog’s photo placed in the gallery- send your doggies’ photo and name to westend@sonic.net. De Turk Bulletin Board’s window has been badly scratched- we will probably not update the board until we can get the window replaced but you can still show off your dog on the website!
